Blazing Fire was Derrick Morgan’s response in the ongoing feud between him and Prince Buster. After Prince Buster released “Blackhead Chinaman” (found HERE) accusing Derrick of being a traitor, Derrick fired back with this song in which he warns Buster “Live and let others live, and your days will be much longer. You said it. Now it’s the Blazing Fire”.

Prince Buster made the cut on side B “Blackhead Chinaman” as a direct insult to record producer Leslie Kong and singer Derrick Morgan. Earlier Morgan had ditched Buster to work with Kong. Soon afterwards one of Busters instrumental breaks appeared on Morgan’s release “Housewive’s Choice” which was produced by Kong. This infuriated Buster and a feud between the 2 artists begun which led to a number of releases from them both attacking one another. “Blackhead Chinaman” was Busters dig at Morgan, asking which race he is more loyal to since Buster perceived Morgan as ripping off a fellow black man and selling out to a Chinese Producer.

Interestingly the lyrics on this singles version of “Blackhead Chinaman” are not the same as other versions I have heard (such as in this You Tube clip).

The following Lyrics are very telling:

“You done stole my belongings and give to your China man
God in heaven knows
He knows that you are wrong
Are you a China man are you a black man
It don’t need no eye glass to se that your skin is black
Do you prefer your China man to your fellow blackman?”

After this song was released Derrick Morgan fired back with his tune “Blazing Fire” (found HERE).

       A Side= Simmer Down. B Side= I Don’t Need Your Love.

The Specials and The Bosstones (amongst many other countless Ska bands) have done their own takes on this Ska classic. “Simmer Down” was Bob Marleys very first hit and was a direct message to the hooligans (or Rude Boys) living in Kingston asking them to cut out their senseless violence (or simply put “To Simmer Down”).
