This set was a Belgium rerelease of 1st Wave Ska artists (Don Drummond, The Maytals, Byron Lee, The Blues Busters, Prince Buster, Jimmy Cliff, Tommy McCook, Stranger Cole, Roland Alphonso, The Skatalites, & Baba Brooks).
The Covers of these albums use Ska dance instruction photos taken from THIS original “Dance The Ska” release from 1964 by Byron Lee & The Dragonaires.
This was one of the earliest U.S. Ska compilation records (along with “Skaface” found HERE). The notes on the back cover are intriguing to read for many reasons, among them it is revealed that:
The Bosstones (before they were Mighty Mighty) are hailed as showing “great promise with their early recordings” but the author laments that “Sadly they are no longer together”. Thankfully that didn’t last for long and the Bosstones came back to become one of he most popular Ska bands in the world.
This record was also released in the UK under the name “Skaville USA Volume 4″ and can be found HERE.
